Arts and zoo grants: approved about $38 million in ZAP grants. ZAP is a voter-approved sales tax that funds arts, cultural, botanical and zoo groups. That covers $17.4 million for 22 large groups (Tier One), the zoo, aviary and aquarium, and 214 smaller groups (Tier Two, 21 of them new). Both votes passed with no opposition heard.

South Jordan City Council

Fire station funding: the Municipal Building Authority (a city-controlled board used to finance buildings) approved up to $27 million in lease revenue bonds to build Fire Station 65 on the growing west side. A bond is a loan the city repays over time. With a lease revenue bond, the board borrows the money and builds the station, and the city pays it back through lease payments, with the station as collateral. Staff said no tax increase is needed. Two public hearings drew no comments, and the vote was unanimous.

Jordan School District Board of Education

Oct 13, 2026

Fee rules: approved unanimously an update to the district's school fees policy (AA408). It sets how fee waivers work for families who can't afford fees, including the option to do a service assignment instead. The changes bring the policy in line with state law and a state audit.
