Sun news: Fast solar wind approaching EarthForbes · 6h ago
Tuesday Northern Lights Forecast: 9 States May See The Aurora Borealis TonightNOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center forecast G1 (minor) geomagnetic storming on Oct. 20 from a coronal hole high-speed stream, with Kp peaking near 4.67. EarthSky reported the fast solar wind was arriving and could bring auroras at high latitudes. Forbes reported Alaska has the best viewing odds, with northern states from Washington to Michigan possible.

AFRL Partners with Virgin Galactic to Gather Data on Space WeatherVirgin Galactic announced a two-year agreement with the Air Force Research Laboratory to collect space weather data from its suborbital spacecraft, Air & Space Forces Magazine reported. AFRL will evaluate integrating sensors with Virgin Galactic's next-generation SpaceShip, due for its first commercial flight next year. The data is meant to help researchers understand space weather effects on satellites.
Power grid · geomagnetic storms (G) induce currents in long lines.
GPS · storms and big flares add position errors.
Radio · flares (R) black out HF radio on the day side.
Satellites · radiation (S) and storms cause drag and glitches.
